Established in 2015 in Wilmore, Kentucky, we are the Bluegrass Arts Collective (BAC). We exist to facilitate quality, affordable arts programming for families, individuals, and communities in Jessamine County and throughout the Bluegrass region.
Q: When should my child start playing an instrument?
As a general rule, the older children are the more quickly they will progress on their instrument. Factors such as attention span, physical coordination, and dexterity in the hands and fingers will play a role in your child's success.
For children 5 to 7 years old, music exploration through a general music class is one of the best ways to develop a love of music and important musical skills. Our Music Makers class is a great way for your child to grow musically. For children wishing to start an instrument at this age, we recommend private piano or violin lessons. Other skills that will help your child be succesful include the knowing the difference between right and left hands, counting up to 10, reciting the alphabet, and being able to read a few words.
For children 8 to 10 years old, instruments such as piano, violin, trumpet, clarinet, flute, and percussion are all great choices. If you have further questions about what instrument is best for your child, please contact us!
Q: Do we provide our own instruments for the music programs?
Q: Where are you located?
A: We are located in Wilmore. All our lessons and classes are held on or near the campus of Asbury University.
Q: How can I support the mission of the BAC?
A: We're so glad you asked! The best way to support us is by spreading the word about our programs and attending our events. Here are some other great ways that you can help:
- Sponsor a student: Each scholarship covers the cost of Bluegrass Arts Collective tuition for a student who otherwise would be unable to participate. Student scholarships are a great way for individuals, families, and churches to help us give children the gift of music. Contact us for details.
- Become a Corporate Sponsor: We invite corporate and family sponsorship of concerts, special events, t-shirts, etc. This is a great way for local businesses to support their community and get a bit of advertising too! Contact us for details.
- Write a check: We have big dreams for our programs and talented, passionate people eager to get started. Your contributions of any size help us get things off the ground and bring the richness of the arts to your community.
